Scholarship Eligibility

RETIREES

Those eligible to apply for a Sid Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund are children and grandchildren of persons who qualified for the Early Retirement, Normal Retirement, Disability Retirement or Death Benefits from:

  • The Bass Retirement Plan (formerly the Retirement Plan for Employees of Bass Enterprises Production Co.)
  • Retirement Plan for Employees of Barbnet/San Jose Cattle Co.
  • Retirement Plan for Employees of Richardson Aviation
  • Retirement Plan for Employees of Sid W. Richardson Foundation
  • Retirement Plan for Employees of Sundance Square.
  • Retirement Plan for Employees of City Center Development

CURRENT EMPLOYEES

Those eligible also include children and grandchildren of persons presently employed with a minimum of three years’ full-time service (as of March 31 application deadline) with any of the following employers:

“Children and grandchildren” include biological and adopted children and grandchildren of eligible employees and retirees.

Vocational/Technical Scholarships

In addition to providing scholarships for study at colleges and universities, the Sid Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for vocational training. Listed below are a number of vocational fields of study that may be available in your area.

Requirements

The application deadline is March 31, 2018 and the application process includes two steps: 1) Determination of eligibility; and 2) Submission of completed scholarship application form with all required supporting materials.

  1. Determination of Eligibility: An applicant must submit an “Application Request”, which includes the information necessary to determine applicant’s eligibility. Applicant may either complete the request online or submit the information by mail or email. Click GET STARTED ONLINE to complete request. Applicants are encouraged to submit the application request prior to January 1, 2018.
  2. Application: Once eligibility has been established, the Sid Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide applicant with a link to the online scholarship application and detailed instructions. The completed scholarship application with all supporting documents must be submitted by no later than the March 31, 2018 deadline.

Applicants are evaluated by an independent Selection Committee on a competitive basis based on academic achievement, record of service, extracurricular activities, leadership and/or financial need. The Internal Revenue Service requirements limit the number of new scholarships that can be awarded each year to 25% of the number of applications received.
